Mayra Feliu was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Puerto Rico. Throughout the years, she has had the opportunity to travel to various countries, especially spending time in Europe. These travels enriched her appreciation of art.
She earned a B.A. in Foreign Affairs from “Universidad
Pedro Henriquez Urena" and an M.B.A. in Financial Management from “Universidad Iberomericana” in Dominican Republic.
While growing up, she always found time to draw, and took private classes with Julia Guerra.
In 1981 she studied at The Arts League in New York.
In 2012 Mayra enrolled in classes at Crealde School of Art, where she later became a Fellowship recipient for the Painting and Drawing Department, and later was selected to be Studio Artist. She has been a member of the Florida Sculptors Guild since 2015.
Her works are found in private collection across the US mainland and in the Caribbean.
“My work in progress combines careful planning with intuitive exploration as the work progresses. My work is not finished until I say I love them.” My paintings are visual poems that are refences to things that might trigger other emotions in you.”
For me the biggest questions are… What am I capable of in my work? Which direction will it take? Not knowing is what makes me do it, just to find out.
